Frequently Asked Questions

  • How to Prepare:

Chill. Come to your appointment as relaxed as you can. Like a lot of things in life, the anticipation is often worse than the actual event. Don't listen to friends who tell you their waxing horror stories. They don’t come to us! Youtube videos and movie scenes with screaming ninnies will only get your knickers in a deeper twist. This is your experience and we want it to be a good one!!

Take a deep breath. We often ask clients to take a few deep breaths and to try to relax their muscles once they get on the waxing table. Don't worry—it really doesn’t hurt that much. And trust me, we want you to come back, so we won’t do anything to traumatize you!

Know that it gets better. We get that first timers don't know what to expect. My advice is to acknowledge that the first one will be the most uncomfortable, especially if you've been shaving prior to it. However, it doesn't have to be the worst thing you've ever done. Most of the time, people leave our room pleasantly relieved that the wax wasn't nearly as bad as they expected. Every wax after the first one gets easier, especially when your hair starts growing in finer and we weaken that horrid follicle!

Medicate if you must. If you're concerned about the potential for pain, take a couple of Advil 20 minutes before your appointment. Some clients feel this takes the edge off.

Remember, it will be over before you know it. Being fuzz-free is so worth a couple minutes of discomfort!

  • Lets just say our wax is considered the creme de la creme in the waxing world. We use hard wax for sensitive areas and a high end strip wax for larger areas.

  • It really depends. Hair grows at different cycles, depending on the person and sometimes your cultural background. Also, shaved hair does not grow back in one cycle. I am seeing more and more that after a first wax, shaved hair will still appear days after the wax. This is typically because the client didn’t wait long enough for ALL of the hair to grow out. You will, however, notice that after a few Brazilian Bikini Waxes, your hair will start to grow in much slower and finer. (Shaved hair is much thicker, because it gets cut off at its thickest point.) Therefore, don’t have high expectations of extremely smooth skin after your first wax. This comes with time and the patience of growing all of your hair out at the same time. But believe me, it pays off.

I understand that there can be frustration during those 4 to 6 weeks of “growing in” time. Here is my advice if you are perhaps going to the beach, or have rendezvous and don’t want to scare young children or your partner! Just shave the sides of your bikini line or if you have time, come in and we can just wax the sides. I’m more concerned with that top part of the bikini line where the hair grows in slower and thicker, it’s just a really good idea to give that area enough time to grow in 100% especially when you are a newbee to waxing and have been shaving.

  • Yes of course. Just know the facts a) you will be more sensitive, and b) you must wear a clean tampon. Pop an Advil 20 minutes before. It may help.

  • Barring any sensitive skin issues you might have, it's generally considered safe for pregnant women to get waxed during pregnancy. Thanks to your hormones, your hair is probably growing at a much faster rate now, which means you might find yourself more fixated on hair removal than ever before.

  • You’ve just invested time, money and a little discomfort in order to be hairfree – so it makes sense to look after it. We don’t just make this stuff up for the sake of it! So, read on…

    Immediately after your wax

It’s normal immediately after your wax for a little bit of redness and a prickly heat type rash to appear. This should disappear after a few hours and is normally due to a histamine reaction. Because waxing removes the hair at the root, it’s important that you keep the area clean and bacteria free. This means:

No sunbathing for at least 12 hours (have your waxing done at least the day BEFORE you go on holiday)

No swimming in a chlorinated pool for 24 hours

Same for spa baths or saunas

Avoid applying any topical lotions for at least 12 hours (fragrances and other lubricants can cause a burning sensation)

Also avoid touching the waxed area to ensure it remains bacteria free

Use a tea tree oil based product to apply to the area for it’s anti-bacterial qualities.

    3-10 Days after waxing

As you skin closes over the follicles, the next consideration is to ensure you prevent ingrown hairs. This is when new, often softer hair can get trapped under the skin. A few simple measures can easily avoid this situation. Here’s where the “do’s” come in:

Use a soft brush or exfoliating glove to gently buff the area every 2-3 days – this is particularly important after about day 3 through to about the 10 day mark. It doesn’t need to be hard scrubbng, just a gentle exfoliation.

Use a product like PFB to roll over the area after showering. This product contains lactic acid which helps ensure dead skin cells are buffed away allowing your hair back through the follicle opening.

The added bonus of following the after care advice (apart from your skin looking hair free and smooth for longer), is that it really will make your next wax a whole lot quicker and less painful.

  • Given that V Wax is a boutique small business, we value time and integrity surrounding timeliness. When an appointment is missed or cancelled with short notice, we miss an opportunity to accommodate wait-listed clients. As a business, habitual tardiness, cancellations, and short-notice reschedules, jeopardizes our ability to grow. Tardiness to your appointment also reduces the time our waxers have to perform your services, which jeopardizes the quality and the longevity of your services and results.

We require 24 hours notice of cancellation OR rescheduling to avoid being charged for 50% of services booked. All sugar services require the full time booked. If you book a sugar wax and are running late, you’ll have to reschedule your appointment. This is to ensure that we have enough time to take care of you during the time booked for your services.

All no-call/no-show appointments require payment of 100% of services booked before your appointment can be cancelled or rescheduled. After a no-call/no-show, clients are required to set their appointments over the phone and pay in full, at the time of appointment set.

V Wax requires a card number to reserve your appointment. While we encourage clients to book through our website, we also book appointments over the phone. In order to honor and streamline policies across mediums for booking (website/phone), it is required that you add a card to your profile at the time of appointment set, when booking over the telephone.

There are no exceptions to these policies. Menstrual cycles included.

Appointments not confirmed via our texts, emails or calls may be cancelled without notice. The systems we have in place to confirm your appointment are a courtesy and a business cost that we happily pay for so that our clients are reminded of their appintments. Any malfunction or missed reminder does not dismiss your obligation to manage your appointment under any circumstance. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding, as we enforce this to ensure the best possible service for our clients, so that we are not rushed or not utilizing an appointment time when another client would have liked to come in.
